Quick Tips

  • Taffeta shifts easily. Use plenty of clips and sew slowly
  • Tissue paper under lightweight versions prevents feed dog damage
  • French seams or bound seams give clean lining finishes
  • Avoid over-pressing. Synthetic taffeta scorches easily; use a press cloth

Detail

Nylon taffeta is lining fabric, stuff sack material, and ultralight shell. It rustles audibly and slips constantly. Keeping seam lines straight as layers shift is the central challenge. Stay stitch curved edges immediately after cutting. Use 2.2 mm stitches for linings, 1.8–2.0 mm with reinforced stress points for structural work like stuff sacks. Skip high heat. Low synthetic setting with a press cloth, or finger-press.
