Quick Tips
- Use clips only. Pins leave permanent holes in waxed canvas
- Wipe the needle frequently with a cloth; wax buildup causes drag and skipped stitches
- Seams don't need finishing. Waxed canvas resists fraying naturally
- Re-wax seam lines after sewing to restore water resistance
Detail
Wax transfers to the presser foot and needle, creating drag and uneven stitching. A Teflon or roller foot is the biggest quality-of-life upgrade for this fabric. Sewing in a warm room softens the wax and improves feed. Skip the iron. Heat melts wax into uneven patches. Crease folds with a fingernail or bone folder. Bar tack stress points on bags and field gear.
